The Seattle Chapter of the American Guild of Organists presents:
Pedals, Pipes, and Pizza
Saturday, November 4th, 2017
St. Andrew's Lutheran Church
2650 148th Avenue, Bellevue
The Seattle Chapter of The American Guild of Organists announces the upcoming Pedals, Pipes and Pizza. As part of our outreach to young musicians, we will present this program on Saturday, November 4th to introduce young piano students to the “King of Instruments.’’ Local organists have donated their time and local churches have offered the use of their instruments to make this event possible. The future of the organ as a foundation for worship services depends on our efforts to reach out and encourage young musicians who may be interested in adding the organ to their keyboard skills. The suggested age range is 11–16.
Pedals, Pipes & Pizza is a one-day event where participants will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on experience. In the morning, guild members will present a general introduction to the organ, which will include a demonstration of how a pipe organ works and the various families of organ pipes and stops. They will have the opportunity to assemble a small pipe organ from a kit—which actually plays—and participate in a handbell choir. Students should prepare and bring a favorite piece of piano music as they will have an opportunity to play it on a pipe organ. The principal purpose of the day is to help students learn about the pipe organ and how it functions.
And of course, there will be pizza for lunch!
In the afternoon the students will be divided into smaller groups and will receive a group lesson by a qualified teacher. Other nearby churches will also be used for the afternoon session. The program begins with check-in from 8:30 to 9:00 AM at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church located at 2650 148 th Ave., Bellevue. Parents will be able to pick up their children at the church at 3:00 PM. The cost for the entire day is $10.00. Additional students from the same household, piano teachers and parents may attend for $5.00 each. Parents and piano teachers are welcome to accompany the students throughout the day. (no charge for those not joining us for lunch)
Pre-registration by October 30 is required as space is limited. If you have any questions, please contact Rita Stoess at 509.939.0872 or rmstoess@comcast.net.
